"The Family That Pray" Reverend Joyce McDonald 2001, Ceramic Sculpture, The Bronx Museum of the Arts

I chose "The Family That Pray" because it represents the importance of connection, faith, and having people to lean on during difficult times. In this exhibition, I want to show that although many struggles happen internally and can make us feel isolated, we don't always have to face them alone. I’m drawn to how McDonald uses simple materials and human figures to communicate feelings that can sometimes be difficult to express through words. To me, this artwork reminds viewers that healing can begin when we allow ourselves to be supported, understood, and cared for by others.
